TYSONSTUNNEL.ORG, SUPPORTING GROUPS TO HOLD PRESS CONFERENCE PRIOR TO MONDAY’S FAIRFAX COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS MEETING

Group also providing free bus transportation to help citizens attend Board meeting

Tysons Corner, Va. (June 1)—TysonsTunnel.org and several of its supporting groups will hold a press conference Monday, June 4 at 10 a.m. at the Government Center, prior to the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors meeting on the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project, to make appeals to the elected officials.

Speakers for this press conference will represent environmental groups, county business leaders, as well as owners of small businesses in the Tysons Corner area. Presenters currently are being finalized. TysonsTunnel.org President Scott A. Monett also will speak.

Why: 
To call on the county’s elected leaders to support competitive bidding and to delay a vote on the current single-source contract until an exhaustive financial and environmental analysis is provided by the Federal Transit Administration. Monett also will address recent developments.

Additionally, TysonsTunnel.org is sponsoring free bus transportation to make it easier for Tysons-area residents to attend Monday’s Board meeting. Buses will pick up groups at three locations in the Tysons-McLean-Vienna area and will return to the same location following the meeting. Pick-up points are:

  1. The Garfield Building, 1575 Anderson Rd., McLean
  2. Emmanus United Church of Christ, 900 Maple Ave. East, Vienna
  3. The Rotonda Condominium Community, McLean (for residents & guests only)

Buses will depart for the Government Center promptly at 10:30 a.m. and will return to the pick-up points at 1 p.m., following the meeting’s conclusion.

Individuals, businesses, community groups, homeowners associations and other groups are invited to sign up for the free transportation. To reserve seats for your group go to www.TysonsTunnel.org and click on the appropriate box. Box lunches will be provided.

TysonsTunnel.org represents an unprecedented coalition of community associations, small businesses, environmental groups, landowners, civic groups, homeowner associations, major corporations and private citizens calling for competitive bidding of the Metrorail extension to Dulles Airport and supporting construction of a tunnel under Tysons Corner.
